GameMaker Card Game Template Project and Card Game Bundle
This month, we released the GameMaker Card Game template project and the Solitaire Booster Pack! As with every Template project that we release, we do our utmost to ensure that they’re good for veterans and newbies alike as a basis to begin to work from. We think that there’s plenty of scope to expand this template with new game modes, power-ups and daily challenge modes!
It also stands wonderfully on its own but we’ve also released the Solitaire Booster Pack Asset Bundle which you can use to get started on making the template your own in the quickest way possible!
We spoke with Lucy, the artist behind the visuals in these projects, the Brick Breaker template and the recent Particle Effects Asset Bundle. Here’s what she had to say about working on the bundle, as well as a few behind the scenes pictures of the cards while they were in development.
“The Solitaire template and the bundle was such a joy to work on! Creating art for this bundle allowed me to blend both digital and traditional media. I experimented with the vibrant, layered textures of gouache to bring intricate floral and plant-inspired designs to life, while with another card deck I could dive into the bold, futuristic world of cyberpunk through digital illustration.
This sharp 180 on a design front has been so much fun to navigate and experiment with. All of the card decks have such a distinct style and I hope you find a favourite! I'm also thinking of getting a few decks printed out for the office.”
Really love seeing these things in development. So many of the people working on projects in GameMaker Towers work entirely digitally, and looking over at the Content Team and seeing paints, pens and physical media come to life always makes me smile.
Over the last few years we’ve released over 30 Asset Bundles and have no plans on stopping that any time soon, but we do have a plan on how to make them available to more people. Stay tuned to the GameMaker community feeds for details on the upcoming prefab system soon!
